How to Choose a Metal-Free N95 Face Mask

If you are allergic to metals and need a mask that can protect you effectively, metal-free N95 masks should be your first choice. You work in an environment where no metallic substance is allowed, and you have to use a mask to protect yourself. The protective N95 mask should be an option.
Otherwise, you run the risk of inhaling toxic substances and even deadly fumes produced by the mask’s metal components when they come into contact with fire or high temperatures—which can happen easily during industrial accidents and fires where large numbers of people are wearing the same kind of masks at once. Here are some other things to keep in mind when choosing an N95 face mask.

What are Breathing Masks?

Breathing masks, or respirators, are protective devices designed to protect your lungs against airborne diseases and dangerous particles in your environment. As implied by their name, they are worn over your mouth and nose while breathing in order to limit your exposure. They can come in three forms: either reusable (disposable), single use (disposable) or multi-use (reusable). The type you choose will depend on where you will be using it and how often.

Key Characteristics of Respiratory Masks

The respiratory masks found online are primarily made of two types of materials: plastic and cloth. Choosing between them is more than just personal preference. The pros and cons of each type are different, depending on what you’re using it for and how you intend to use it. With that in mind, here’s what you need to know about choosing an N95 face mask for your needs.

Where Do You Use Respiratory Masks?

The first step to choosing a respirator is figuring out where you plan on using it. Respirators are designed for very specific situations, and not all masks will work for everyone. To choose an appropriate mask, you need to figure out what your needs are: Do you want something for mold remediation? Do you have allergies? Do you use woodworking tools? Are there any other potential risks involved in your daily life that could require protective respiratory gear?

What Types Are There?

There are two main types of masks: one that forms an airtight seal against your face, and another that is loose around your nose but provides good coverage over your mouth and nose. This second type is loose enough for you to be able to eat or drink, but not so much that it will create an airtight seal. This will not block all particulates; however, it can help reduce exposure levels by up to 95 percent, which makes it a great choice for many situations.

How to Choose a Metal-Free N95 Face Mask?

The next steps will lead us to the ideal N95 mask without metal.
Step 1: Examine how the mask is attached. Select a mask that indicates welding at the connection.
Step 2: Examine the nose clip of the face mask. If it is an external bridge, its composition is straightforward to determine. Choose N95 masks with plastic strips advertised, and ask the merchant if the strips include metal. The only N95 masks we require are ones without a bridge or those claim to be metal-free.
Step 3:  Check packaging and masks whether NIOSH markings are correctly printed.
Step 4:  Check the TC number assigned by NIOSH to each N95 mask, then verify it on the CDC website for confirmation.
Step 5: Check the mask’s expiration date. Do not order if it has expired.
