Omicron Could End The Epidemic?

In the third year of the coronavirus pandemic, which has infected more than 350 million people and killed more than 5 million people worldwide, the latest variant, Omicron, has replaced the Delta variant that recently dominated the world.

The 1918 influenza pandemic, the deadliest in history, infected an estimated 500 million people worldwide—about one-third of the planet’s population—and killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million victims, including some 675,000 Americans. It lasted between one and two years.

New study says omicron really could be the final chapter of the pandemic and end the global health emergency since it causes less serious illness and leads to protection against the delta variant.

And although the WHO and others have suggested that huge numbers of Omicron infections could signal the end of the pandemic, because of the short-term surge in immunity that will follow, researchers warn that the situation remains volatile and difficult to model.

Is there another COVID-19 variant after omicron?

But whether that variant will rise to the level of a variant of concern remains an open question. At present, the original BA.1 Omicron lineage is being replaced by another, called BA.2.

What are some of the symptoms of the omicron variant of COVID-19?
All of the variants, including delta and omicron, cause similar COVID-19 symptoms, including cough, fever and fatigue. There is some evidence that fewer people with omicron lose their taste and smell. Omicron is also less likely to cause severe disease such as pneumonia that may require treatment in the hospital.

The Omicron variant causes more infections and spreads faster than the original SARS-CoV-2 strain of the virus that causes COVID-19.

What is the incubation period for the Omicron COVID-19 strain?

“Originally, it could be” five to six days or even “up to 14 days before a person might manifest symptoms after getting infected. “That time seems to be lower, around two to three days after exposure to developing symptoms,”

The best way to slow the emergence of the Omicron variant is to get vaccinated.
