How to spot your N95 respirator is genuine or fake one?

If you still not sure whether you get a real N95 or not, we commend you to have a quick look at the below tips.

  1. Make sure your supplier claim they only sell real N95 and ask for more details to prove.
  2. If the seller tells you the N95 is approval for children also or any marking on the package shows it for children. It is fake. NIOSH does not approve any type of respiratory protection for children
  3. View the respirator you got is a head strap or ear loop. All N95 must be with a head strap. Any ear loop model marked N95 is a fake one.
  4. View the print on the respirator and compare it with the correct template showing on the CDC website. Any mistake found can be deemed as a fake mask.

Signs that a respirator may be counterfeit:

  • No markings at all on the filtering facepiece respirator
  • No approval (TC) number on filtering facepiece respirator or headband
  • No NIOSH markings
  • NIOSH spelled incorrectly
  • Presence of decorative fabric or other decorative add-ons (e.g., sequins)
  • Claims for the of approval for children (NIOSH does not approve any type of respiratory protection for children)
  • Filtering facepiece respirator has ear loops instead of headbands
